Moving to new Hosting Provider

During the weekend we moved the VirtualTester web-service to our new provider RackSpace. The decision was not easy to make but after extensive testing of the new server with the backup-site of VirtualTester and all hosted HelpDeskPRO customers, we decided to move. As we had the backup system already running, the transition was smooth and only involved some minor changes to the code as there were some hardcoded paths and IP-addresses not matching the new system. A dump of the database was created from the old server after closing access to the system and the dump was then transferred to the new server, imported and validated before starting the new server. The DNS records were adjusted ahead to have a low TTL and the change thus only took 15 minutes to propagate.

All in all, the migration took less than two hours and we were able to resume operation of VirtualTester at 15:00 CEST.
